SABN Lions Develop Disaster Relief App During Crystal City Flood Reponse
SAN ANTONIO, Texas (August 12, 2026) — The San Antonio Bexar Necessities (SABN) Lions Club has developed and deployed a new Disaster Relief Registration Application designed to help Lions and volunteers more efficiently register households, track assistance and manage the distribution of disaster relief supplies.
The application has been actively tested and refined during the Club’s ongoing Crystal City Flood Relief efforts, giving the SABN Lions team an opportunity to use the system in a real-world disaster response environment.
Built with field operations in mind, the application gives volunteers a simple way to register families, locate existing household records and document which resources have been distributed—all while providing relief coordinators with a live view of the overall operation.
A Live View of the Relief Effort
From the application’s homepage, volunteers and relief leaders can quickly see an overview of the response, including the total number of registered households and individuals being served.
A dedicated dashboard provides live operational metrics showing the number of Family Recovery Totes, cases of bottled water, meals and box fans distributed.
Rather than waiting until the end of an event to reconcile paper forms or manually count distribution totals, relief leaders can monitor progress as supplies are being distributed.
Faster Registration and Household Lookup
The application provides several ways for volunteers to quickly locate and assist a household.
New households can be registered directly through the application, while returning households can be found by searching their name or address.
Each registered household is also provided a unique QR code that becomes their digital record throughout the distribution process.
Using the application’s Scan QR feature, a volunteer can scan the household’s QR code and immediately see its registration and collection status. If the household does not have its QR code available, volunteers can locate the same record through search.
The system clearly identifies which resources have already been received and which remain available for pickup. Volunteers can then confirm each distribution directly from the household record.
This has become particularly useful as the Crystal City response has continued across multiple distribution days. A household that previously received a recovery tote and bottled water, for example, can return for newly available resources such as a box fan without having to complete another registration.
Built Around the Volunteer Experience
The system was designed to make the technology as straightforward as possible for volunteers working in a fast-moving relief environment.
Instead of requiring volunteers to navigate spreadsheets, paper rosters or multiple databases, the application brings registration, household search, QR scanning, distribution tracking and live reporting into one platform.
During the Crystal City response, SABN Lions have been able to test the application with volunteers working simultaneously across different parts of the operation—from registration and household lookup to QR scanning and supply distribution.
Those real-world experiences are also helping the Club identify improvements and continue refining the application for future deployments.
Turning Field Experience Into Better Disaster Response
For SABN Lions, the project represents another part of the Club’s effort to strengthen how it responds when communities need assistance.
The Crystal City flood response has required coordinating volunteers, supplies, household registrations and multiple types of assistance across multiple distribution efforts. The Disaster Relief Registration Application provides a centralized system for connecting those pieces while giving leadership better information about what has been accomplished and what resources remain to be distributed.
Most importantly, the technology is intended to support, not replace, the personal service at the center of Lions disaster relief.
By reducing paperwork and giving volunteers immediate access to the information they need, the Club can spend less time managing records and more time helping families.
The SABN Lions Club plans to continue testing and improving the application based on lessons learned from the Crystal City Flood Relief effort, creating a stronger and more scalable tool that can support future disaster relief missions.
