Lions Clubs Continue Flood Recovery Support in Crystal City
CRYSTAL CITY, Texas — The San Antonio Bexar Necessities Lions Club & Foundation, in partnership with the Crystal City Lions Club, will continue its flood recovery efforts by distributing additional supplies to Crystal City families impacted by the recent flooding.
The distribution will take place Friday, August 14, from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Crystal City Lions Club, 315 N. Ave. B, Crystal City, TX 78839. Families impacted by the flooding will be able to receive Family Recovery Totes, box fans and cases of bottled drinking water, while supplies last.
The distribution continues the Lions’ ongoing recovery work in Crystal City. Since the flooding, Lions and volunteers have worked alongside the community to provide immediate relief supplies, connect residents with recovery resources and listen directly to families about the challenges they continue to face.
“From the beginning, we knew the most important thing we could do was listen to the families who were actually going through this,” said Ann Islas, Service Chairperson for the San Antonio Bexar Necessities Lions Club. “They told us what they were dealing with in their homes and what they needed most. We’ve tried to make sure our response reflects what we heard from them.”
Feedback gathered directly from Crystal City households has helped guide the types of supplies being provided, with an emphasis on practical items families can use as they clean their homes, replace damaged necessities and continue the recovery process.
Family Recovery Totes Packed with Essential Supplies
Family Recovery Totes have been prepared with 17 different types of cleanup, heat protection, personal hygiene and food support items.
Each tote includes:
- Cleanup & Recovery: two 42-gallon contractor bags, two pairs of safety work gloves and an N95 respirator.
- Heat & Outdoor Protection: two cooling towels, two bottles of sunscreen spray and insect repellent.
- Personal Hygiene: body wipes, antibacterial soap, two stick deodorants, two shampoo and conditioner sets, hand sanitizer and two rolls of toilet paper.
- Food & Meal Support: two beef cup noodles, two chicken cup noodles, two fruit cups, 20 disposable cutlery packets and a 9-inch frying pan.
In addition to the Family Recovery Totes, box fans and cases of bottled water will be distributed to provide additional support as families continue cleanup and recovery efforts during the South Texas summer.
Recovery Continues
While the immediate emergency has passed, recovery for many Crystal City households continues. Cleaning and drying homes, replacing damaged belongings and returning households to normal can take weeks or months.
For the Lions, that means continuing to listen and respond as the needs of the community change throughout the recovery process.
“For many families, recovery continues long after the immediate emergency has passed,” Islas said. “Families are still working to put their homes and their lives back together. We want the Crystal City community to know that we hear them, we care about what they’re going through, and we’re committed to continuing this work alongside them.”
The San Antonio Bexar Necessities Lions Club & Foundation and Crystal City Lions Club remain committed to working alongside the community and helping available resources reach families as they continue rebuilding and recovering.
