Aug 2022: SABN Lions Club Hosts 1st Annual Leadership Retreat
The San Antonio Bexar Necessities Lions Club held their first club retreat on Saturday August 27, 2022. Members gave up 4 hours of their weekend to work on team building and club quality. Throughout the day members participated in sessions presented by club leadership.
Sessions included learning about Lions Club International 101 and personality styles through color assessment. Information learned will help the group to work together, stay motivated, communicate better, and be more efficient.
We also spent time on Club Diversity through an open discussion on each member’s reason for being a Lion, and their preferred service areas. The conversation left the team with an appreciation of different motivations for being a Lion, we all have a passion to serve.
We spent time working as a team and talked about marketing strategy. We looked at how to use service projects, social media, and other resources to create impactful public relations initiatives. We will use our notes from this activity to increase membership and expand our club’s reach.
We were lucky to be joined by District Governor, Lion DG Steve Mays, and our Guiding Lion, PDG Sam Pantusa, for the entirety of the retreat. Our district leaders spent the day answering questions from members and giving advice based on years of experience with Lions Clubs International. We are grateful they were willing to make time to attend and participate. We look forward to implementing some of the great ideas they shared with the group.
A large focus of the retreat was Professional Development opportunities available to all Lions. There’s an amazing list of course topics available to each of our members that we are excited to take advantage of.
We ended our retreat motivated, ready to work, and grateful of where our service will lead. It was a great day to be a Lion!
A special thank you to our retreat sponsors, Las Palapas and Realtor Maykin Hart, for providing us with breakfast and lunch. Their contributions fueled today’s creative thinking.
