Jun 2022: SABN Lions Club partners with the Annual Centro Family Pride Day!
It’s been a busy summer at our club. Our club members have been busy brainstorming and executing new service projects! I’m excited about the impact we are having on our community.
In June, our club partnered with Centro San Antonio, a placemaking organization that works every day to create a more beautiful and welcoming downtown, for its 3rd Annual Centro Family Pride Day on June 26th.
The Family Pride Day returned again this year to Madison Square Park with this year’s theme: “A Brave Space For Every Family.” Our club joined many other LGBTQ+ resources along with performers and vendors to celebrate our LGBTQ+ families and communities.
Our club had an amazing and, at moments, emotional time listening to so many stories and connecting the community to LGBTQ+ resources. We loved every minute we spent at the event, and we celebrate Centro San Antonio for creating such a beautiful and safe space for our LGBTQ+ families.
We had the incredible honor of meeting Angel Flores, this year’s Grand Marshal, and Queer Eye Season 6E2 hero. Angel shared a lovely moment with our club members as she picked our raffle winner, Glarisa Chavez, who won a Pride tote that included Pride-inspired goodies, valued at $100!
Our table event was a huge success thanks to our wonderful sponsors; Carlos Padron from Grupo Padron Holdings and Edgar Ramirez from IceZilla. Their donations enabled us to provide free paletas to all who attended the event. The paletas were a great hit and well needed as we tackled the 100-degree weather.
I want to give a special thanks to our club members who volunteered at the event. Their dedication to service is what drives our club to continue to make a difference in our community. With their help, we had the opportunity to connect with our LGBTQ+ community to share our story of why “We Serve.”
